The Economics of Global Poverty:  A Community of Christian Researchers

Project Director:  Dr. Christopher B. Barrett, Cornell University

Dates:  July 9-12, 2012

Location:  Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan

This project aims to cultivate a community of talented young economics researchers working on different aspects of the economics of global poverty.  The emphasis will be on empirical work using primary and secondary (experimental or observational) data on individuals, households, firms and communities, but with a firm theoretical grounding.

The team will meet for two 3-day workshops in summers 2012 and 2013 and present projects at a public conference in summer 2014.

Target applicants will have completed a Ph.D. in economics, agricultural and resource economics, public policy or a closely related discipline within the previous ten years or be ABD and expecting to complete their degree within a year or so.  They will have a primary focus in empirical development economics and a personal Christian faith commitment.

Participants will receive a $1000 research grant, housing, meals, and a substantial travel allowance.

Application deadline:  February 1, 2012.
