KIRBY LAING INSTITUTE FOR CHRISTIAN ETHICS: DOCTORAL FUNDING
KLICE's doctoral funding programme for 2008/9.
Funding for research students
working in Christian ethics, normally
at UK institutions, either in
theology or other departments, and in any area of Christian ethics.
Message to potential applicants:
This message is for people who have inquired about KLICE's doctoral
funding programme, or who might be interested in hearing about it.
The criteria for applications and an application form for the year
2008/9 are available from the KLICE website:
www.tyndale.cam.ac.uk/KLICE
If you think you meet these criteria and wish to apply, I would
encourage you to do so. The deadline is FEBRUARY 29 for the academic
year 2008/9. We aim to announce decisions within six to eight weeks
of
that date. The selection process takes place under the supervision
of
the KLICE Advisory Council.
We are able to offer partial financial support to a small number of
candidates, and our intention is that the level of funding initially
offered should be available for three years of full-time research.
While
our normal preference is to fund doctoral candidates from the start
of
their programme, we will also give consideration to candidates
further
advanced in their research. In addition, while our normal preference
is
to fund full-time students we will also consider applications from
those
registered part-time. Candidates should be registered at a UK
university
and intend to contribute to work on Christian ethics in the UK.
We also organise three Research Seminars per year at Tyndale House
(linked, where possible, to ethics conferences or other
research-related
events). Financial support for travel and accommodation will also be
available both for our own grantees and for others whom we think
will
benefit from such opportunities. Please indicate in a covering
letter
with your application if you are interested in participating in such
seminars whether or not you are awarded a grant.
I'd like to underline that the overall aim of this programme is not
only
to support promising individuals in their own research but also to
engender a network of Christian scholars who will benefit from each
other's work and will want to explore avenues of ongoing cooperation
with each other, in order to advance the larger goal of promoting
biblically-grounded Christian ethics in the academy, church and
society.
If you have any queries about the programme or the application
process,
please do contact me.
